If you were lucky enough to attend a Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys show in the 1930s or 1940s, the King of Western Swing made sure that he had more to sell you than a good time. Wills traveled with an embroidery machine and his crew would embroider guests’ names on a branded pennant while they waited for the show to begin. That makes the pennant the very first piece of Country Music tour merchandise.
